Commercial Manager / Head of Cost Consultant Services

About the role

We are a leading multi‑discipline consultancy delivering large‑scale residential developments and fire‑safety remediation programmes across England. We are seeking a highly motivated, chartered professional to lead our Cost Consultant Services team as Commercial Manager and Director Designate.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a cost consultancy team, providing mentorship and training to junior staff.
• Oversee pre‑contract activities including development appraisals, cost planning and estimating for residential and remediation projects.
• Collaborate with design managers, fire engineers and project managers to maximise client development opportunities.
• Manage joint ventures, soft‑market testing, and procurement strategies, including PCSA and innovative routes.
• Administer post‑contract procedures, ensuring accurate final accounts and commercial advice.
• Maintain and enhance internal processes, quality management systems and project databases.

Required profile

• Chartered or equivalent cost consultancy qualification with extensive leadership experience.
• Proven track record on residential, high‑rise, mixed‑use, public sector and brownfield projects ranging £5 m‑£100 m+.
• Strong commercial acumen, programme management and client‑facing skills.
• Experience in value management, joint‑venture management and innovative procurement.

Required skills

• CostX or similar cost‑planning software.
• Microsoft Office suite.
• Knowledge of NRM (National Building Specification) guidelines.
