Communications Information Systems Engineer

About the role

The Communications Information Systems Engineer will join a small specialist team responsible for end‑to‑end connectivity and local network management of all fixed communication systems supporting Headquarters British Forces Gibraltar. The role contributes to Defence Digital core outputs and enables military and business operations for the HQBFG community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide full technical service and support for all Defence Digital‑supported fixed telecommunications systems, ensuring connectivity and availability in line with the HQBFG site agreement.
• Support installation of new systems following the request‑for‑change process and adhere to MOD policy, CIDA and ECR procedures.
• Maintain close relationships with system users, primary customers, delivery teams and the wider Defence Digital community.
• Offer Subject Matter Expert advice on fixed network and system issues and communicate incidents affecting HQBFG.
• Notify stakeholders of planned circuit disruptions using the official DD outage notification process.
• Handle cryptographic materials in accordance with MOD cryptographic handling instructions.
• Participate in a 24/7/365 on‑call roster to provide continuous support.

Required profile

• Experience working with fixed telecommunications and network management in a Defence or government environment.
• Familiarity with MOD policy, Coordinating Infrastructure Design Authority (CIDA) and Electronic Change Request (ECR) processes.
• Ability to work on‑call and respond to incidents outside normal working hours.
• Understanding of cryptographic handling requirements for secure communications.
