Compliance Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a Compliance Assistant to join our Birmingham office of a Legal 500‑recognised firm. The role supports fee earners and business teams in client onboarding, ensuring all regulatory and internal standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Assist fee earners with new client onboarding and matter creation.
• Perform conflict checks, AML checks and identity verification.
• Conduct national and international searches as required.
• Set up and maintain client and matter records in the case‑management system.
• Monitor onboarding workflows, chase outstanding actions and meet deadlines.
• Respond to internal and client queries promptly and professionally.
• Help produce onboarding guidance and improve internal processes.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the firm to ensure smooth delivery.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar compliance role within legal or professional services, or transferable experience from finance/banking.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Proactive, hands‑on approach with ownership of tasks.
