Public Law Solicitor (NQ to 3+PQE) – Birmingham

About the role

Our client, a top‑tier law firm recognised by The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, is seeking experienced Public Law Solicitors for a permanent position in Birmingham. The role involves handling a broad range of public law matters, from judicial review to immigration challenges, and reporting directly to the Department Director.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of public law work, including judicial review, civil liberties, and immigration cases.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members, supervising solicitors, trainees and caseworkers.
• Lead complex cases such as unlawful detention, false imprisonment, asylum support, and challenges to NHS, local authority and tribunal decisions.
• Assist with the delivery of training and professional development within the department.
• Collaborate with barristers’ chambers, other firms and public bodies on funding and case management.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with NQ to 3+ years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in public law.
• Demonstrated experience in judicial review, civil liberties, immigration and related public law areas.
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff and manage diverse caseloads.
• Strong analytical and advocacy skills, with a track record of high success rates.
