Construction Manager

About the role

Dowds is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the safe and successful delivery of complex, high‑value construction projects. You will be responsible for on‑site execution, programme delivery, subcontractor management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams across sectors such as life science, commercial, education and healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Full responsibility for on‑site construction delivery, ensuring safety, programme adherence and specification compliance.
• Lead and coordinate subcontractors, site managers, supervisors and operatives.
• Manage construction sequencing, logistics and site set‑up from commencement through handover.
• Drive productivity, monitor progress and identify efficiency improvements.
• Oversee quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance (HSE).
• Attend and lead coordination meetings with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Liaise with design teams to manage buildability, technical queries and design development.
• Support commissioning, testing and handover activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Lead MEP/Mechanical Construction Manager on technically complex projects (£10m–£30m+).
• Strong background delivering mechanical‑led or MEP‑heavy projects in fast‑paced environments.
• Experience managing large site teams and high‑volume logistics.
• SMSTS certification (Gold Card preferred).
• NVQ Level 6/7 or equivalent in Construction or Senior Construction Management.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
