Costs Draftsperson

About the role

We are expanding our National Costs Department and are looking for a skilled Costs Draftsperson to join our specialist team. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of high‑value personal injury and clinical negligence matters, from budgeting through to final bill negotiation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a full caseload of high‑profile claims, preparing Cost Budgets (Precedent H), Statements of Costs (N260s), estimates and Formal Bills of Costs.
• Negotiate cost budgets and bills of costs, aiming for the most favourable settlement terms.
• Attend and represent the firm at Costs CMCs, Detailed Assessment hearings and other application hearings.
• Work closely with PI lawyers and counsel, providing cost advice on live claims and complex technical issues.
• Act as a “Supervision Buddy”, offering day‑to‑day coaching and technical guidance to junior colleagues.

Required profile

• Experienced and confident costs professional with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, persuasive advocacy and confident negotiation skills.
• Strong attention to detail, file‑management and organisational abilities.
• Professional telephone manner and ability to liaise with senior counsel.
