Design Engineer – Civil & Structural Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join Kier’s Design team in Leeds. Working within the Structures & Geotechnical capability, you will support the delivery of complex civil and structural infrastructure projects for clients such as local authorities, National Highways and water utilities. The role offers a blend of remote work and occasional office visits.

Key responsibilities

• Design permanent works for structures, highways, geotechnics and related infrastructure, integrating temporary works where required.
• Support tender and bid submissions with outline designs, feasibility studies and value‑engineering solutions.
• Conduct technical assessments and reviews of third‑party designs to ensure compliance with client and Kier standards.
• Undertake site visits, surveys and inspections, providing technical advice on safety and construction matters.
• Manage project deliverables including calculations, CAD drawings, reports and risk assessments while maintaining quality standards.

Required profile

• Professional engineering qualification (IEng, EngTech, CEng) or Level 6/7 degree with relevant experience.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Commitment to safety, ethical practice and environmental stewardship.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD for structural and geotechnical design.
• Ability to produce detailed calculations and risk assessments.
• Experience with temporary works design and integration.
• Knowledge of tender preparation and technical review processes.
