Designated Safeguarding Lead

About the role

The Designated Safeguarding Lead will join the leadership team of Westmorland School, a specialist SEND institution, reporting directly to the Head Teacher. This role ensures that the safety, wellbeing and protection of children and young people are fully recognised and met across both primary and secondary campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise daily with statutory and non‑statutory agencies, parents, carers and staff on child protection and safeguarding matters.
• Provide expert advice, support and guidance to staff on safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of safeguarding strategies within the school.
• Coordinate safeguarding training and awareness programmes for all personnel.
• Maintain accurate records and produce safeguarding reports for senior management and external bodies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in safeguarding within an educational setting, preferably SEND.
• Strong understanding of UK child protection legislation and best practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple sites and with external agencies.
