Early Years Development Worker (Full-time, Fixed-term)

About the role

We are seeking an Early Years Development Worker to join Torbay Council’s Children’s Services team. The role is a full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term position supporting the development and expansion of school‑age childcare across Torbay.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with schools, voluntary organisations and community partners to improve the quality and sustainability of early years and school‑age childcare provision.
• Lead local sufficiency planning, using data collection, consultation and analysis to assess the childcare market and ensure statutory place‑sufficiency.
• Produce assessment reports and recommendations for the council and partner agencies.
• Support the implementation of high‑quality provision, focusing on targeted groups of children and families.
• Maintain compliance with regulated activity requirements, including enhanced criminal record and barred list checks.

Required profile

• Relevant experience working directly in school‑age childcare, early years, education or family services.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with a range of providers and partners.
• Ability to organise and prioritise own workload independently.
• Relevant qualification in a related field.
