Fabrication Welder – Heavy Steel Projects

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Fabrication Welder to join our engineering workshop in Birmingham. The role involves MIG and TIG welding on a variety of steel components, supporting bespoke heavy‑fabrication projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform MIG and TIG welding on mild steel, stainless steel and other materials.
- Fabricate and assemble large and small steel components according to technical drawings.
- Work on bespoke projects including heavy structural items, machinery components, and engineered parts.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and fabrication instructions.
- Operate fabrication machinery such as guillotines, press brakes, drills, grinders and cutting equipment.
- Conduct quality checks and inspections to ensure weld integrity and dimensional accuracy.
- Assist with fitting, assembly and general workshop duties.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers and production staff to meet deadlines.
- Identify and report faults, defects or non‑conformance issues.
Required profile
- Proven experience as a Fabricator Welder in a manufacturing or engineering setting.
- Strong knowledge of MIG and TIG welding techniques.
- Ability to work from technical engineering drawings with minimal supervision.
- Experience with large fabrications or heavy engineering components (advantageous).
- Good understanding of materials, tolerances and fabrication processes.
- Competent use of hand tools and workshop machinery.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
