About the role
The Facilities Officer (Caretaker) will be based at Hob Moor Community Primary Academy in York, providing day‑to‑day maintenance, porterage and cleaning services. Working 30 hours per week, you will ensure the school environment is safe, clean and operating to a high standard while supporting the Facilities Management team.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of the building fabric, equipment and utilities.
- Respond to help‑desk requests and complete jobs within agreed service level agreements.
- Perform porterage duties such as accepting deliveries, litter picking, weeding, rubbish removal and arranging furniture.
- Supervise and induct subcontractors, monitoring risk assessments and method statements.
- Maintain health and safety compliance, act as Building Fire Officer and manage fire and safety documentation.
- Provide emergency cleaning and ensure safe pedestrian access, especially in adverse weather.
- Operate and test the hydrotherapy pool (Hob Moor only) and hold a main key for opening and closing the school.
Required profile
- Positive, professional attitude with strong communication skills.
- Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Trade background or solid practical maintenance experience.
- Ability to organise, prioritise tasks and work flexibly.
- Willingness to learn and develop within a facilities management environment.
Required skills
- Microsoft Office.
- Pool Plant Operators qualification (eligible for additional hourly pay).
What we offer
- Hourly rate of £14.86, with an extra £0.25 per hour for holders of a Pool Plant Operators qualification.
