Family Support Worker – 37 hrs

About the role

Torbay Children’s Services is seeking a dedicated Family Support Worker to manage and enhance Family Time contact for children in care. Working 37 hours per week, you will ensure that supervised visits are safe, meaningful, and focused on positive outcomes for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and support contact between children and their parents or wider family members.
• Supervise Family Time sessions in a safe environment, monitoring wellbeing at all times.
• Observe interactions, record accurate notes, and contribute to social work assessments.
• Provide emotional support to children before, during, and after visits, especially where trauma has occurred.
• Collaborate with social workers, foster carers, and other professionals to plan and review Family Time.
• Promote a trauma‑informed, child‑centred approach and help parents engage positively.
• Manage challenging situations calmly while maintaining professional boundaries and safety.

Required profile

• Committed and skilled professional with experience in child and family support.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and maintain clear boundaries.
• Strong observational and record‑keeping abilities.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Criminal Record Check and Barred List Check.
