Financial Controller – Future Finance Director Path

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing international SME to hire a Financial Controller based in Somerset. The role sits at the heart of the finance function, offering a clear pathway to a future Finance Director position as the business scales.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end reporting across multiple entities.
• Maintain robust financial governance, controls and compliance.
• Manage tax and VAT obligations in several jurisdictions, coordinating with external advisors.
• Own the budgeting and forecasting process, delivering insightful analysis.
• Support strategic decisions through financial modelling and performance tracking.
• Oversee cash flow and working capital management for the group.
• Drive improvements in systems, processes and reporting, including ERP optimisation.
• Coordinate audits and proactively manage financial risk.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
• First or second move into industry, or experience within an SME finance team.
• Experience handling multiple entities, preferably with international exposure.
• Comfortable working with ERP systems and developing reporting capabilities.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Ambitious mindset focused on progression to a Finance Director role.
