Freight Forwarder – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Freight Forwarder to join our client’s operations team in Manchester on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave, with the possibility of becoming permanent. The role involves managing import and export shipments and ensuring smooth freight movements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage freight forwarding operations for both import and export shipments.
• Coordinate EU and sea freight movements from booking through to delivery.
• Complete and process customs entries using CDS/CNS systems.
• Liaise with customers, carriers and overseas agents to ensure shipment progression.
• Prepare and maintain accurate shipping documentation.
• Monitor shipments and provide regular updates to customers.
• Work with the wider operations team to resolve transport or customs issues.
• Maintain operational records using internal systems and spreadsheets.

Required profile

• Previous experience in freight forwarding (essential).
• Good knowledge of EU and sea freight operations.
• Import and export customs experience, including CDS/CNS entries.
• Knowledge of packed and tanker movements (advantageous).
• Proactive, hands‑on approach to freight forwarding operations.

Required skills

• CDS/CNS customs entry system.
• Multifreight software.
• Mintsoft software.

What we offer

• Salary £30,000‑£35,000 DOE.
