About the role

One of the UK's leading national property consultancies is seeking a Graduate/Assistant Building Surveyor to join its Manchester office. The role offers exposure to varied public and private sector projects, with professional training and a clear path towards chartership.

Key responsibilities

  • Engage with clients to understand objectives, asset performance and operational requirements.
  • Assist in developing project briefs, feasibility advice, budget costings and risk assessments.
  • Conduct building, condition and defect surveys; prepare technical drawings, reports and tender documentation.
  • Advise on statutory compliance, planning and building regulations; support procurement and contractor selection.
  • Administer building contracts (JCT desirable), chair progress meetings and liaise with contractors and consultants.
  • Monitor programme, cost and quality performance; manage variations, change control and health & safety compliance.
  • Inspect completed works, agree final accounts and provide post‑project evaluations and client reporting.

Required profile

  • Degree qualified in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 months of relevant surveying or project experience.
  • Experience assisting delivery of minor works or improvement projects.
  • Strong interest in project management within asset management and building improvement.
  • Highly organised with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

  • Building surveys, condition surveys and defect analysis.
  • Technical drawing and report preparation.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, planning and building regulations.
  • Contract administration (JCT experience desirable).
  • Health & safety awareness (CDM).
