Hire Desk Controller – Office Based in Reading

About the role

The Hire Desk Controller will be the central point for managing hire and sales enquiries within a busy branch of a global construction and engineering group. Based in an office in Reading, you will support customers, coordinate equipment movements and help ensure smooth branch operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage hire and sales enquiries from customers and internal teams.
• Process orders, quotations and hire contracts accurately.
• Liaise with customers, site personnel and other branches to arrange deliveries and collections.
• Coordinate equipment dispatches, deliveries and returns.
• Support stocktakes and maintain up‑to‑date records.
• Handle branch paperwork, purchase orders and assist with credit control.
• Maintain strong customer relationships and support the wider branch team.

Required profile

• Experience in hire, sales or customer service, preferably within construction or engineering.
• Confident telephone and communication skills.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment and as part of a team.
• Based within a commutable distance of Reading.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
