Housekeeper – Ward 31 Orthopaedic Ward

About the role

The Ward 31 Housekeeper supports a 23‑bedded orthopaedic ward dedicated to fracture neck of femur patients. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role ensures a clean, safe and welcoming environment that underpins high‑quality, compassionate care for frail and elderly patients.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the ward, in line with NHS infection prevention policies.
• Use cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals safely and effectively.
• Support meal service and manage stock of cleaning supplies.
• Collaborate with nursing, medical and therapy staff to address ward needs promptly.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations, including manual handling and COSHH requirements.

Required profile

• Ability to work under pressure in a busy acute ward.
• Resilient, reliable and flexible with a willingness to adapt to changing demands.
• Good organisational and communication skills for interaction with staff, patients and visitors.
• Experience in a healthcare or similar care environment is desirable but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and proper use of cleaning equipment.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
• Familiarity with health and safety standards, including manual handling and COSHH.
