Humanitarian Affairs Officer

About the role

The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will join the Humanitarian and Stabilisation Operations Team (HSOT) supporting the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in delivering the Humanitarian Emergency Response Operations and Stabilisation Programme (HEROS). Working within the Early Warning, Analysis and Reporting (EWAR) team, the officer will help generate timely humanitarian intelligence to inform decision‑making across 130 countries.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor global events, conduct horizon scanning and provide early warnings on sudden‑onset crises.
• Produce situation updates, reports and the Humanitarian Early Warning Note for FCDO.
• Generate ad‑hoc analytical products based on FCDO information needs.
• Maintain and structure humanitarian data sets for analysis.
• Serve as Duty Officer on a rotational basis, delivering 24/7 alerting and surveillance.
• Support briefing preparation for senior political audiences, including Cabinet and Prime Ministerial level.
• Develop information management strategies for rapid‑onset responses and ensure readiness to deploy.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of humanitarian emergencies, early warning systems and risk identification.
• Experience working with government or international partners in a multi‑stakeholder environment.
• Ability to produce clear, concise analytical products under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
