Information Compliance Analyst

About the role

This position offers the chance to join a leading higher‑education institution as an Information Compliance Analyst. You will support data protection, freedom of information, subject access requests and broader information‑governance initiatives across a large, complex organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, FOIA and related governance frameworks.
• Review, assess and respond to complex FOI and SAR enquiries, applying appropriate legal exemptions.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve policies, procedures and frameworks for data protection and information management.
• Advise on Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), data‑sharing arrangements and other compliance initiatives.
• Support audits, reporting and regulatory requirements, maintaining robust information‑management practices.
• Collaborate with Legal Services and internal stakeholders to provide pragmatic, solutions‑focused advice.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of data‑protection regulations, including GDPR and the Data Protection Act.
• Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, legally robust responses.
• Excellent attention to detail, grammar and accuracy when preparing formal documentation.
• Ability to interpret legislation and apply legal principles and exemptions with sound judgement.
• Proficiency in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work across multiple departments.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK GDPR, FOIA and Data Protection Act 2018.
• Experience drafting FOI and SAR responses.
• Familiarity with Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) documentation.
