Interim Financial Controller

About the role

Mitchell Adam is partnering with a well‑established professional services business in Birmingham to find an Interim Financial Controller during a period of change. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead a team of 12 accountants and transactional staff, overseeing day‑to‑day finance operations while supporting strategic decision‑making and ensuring robust, compliant financial control and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of 12 qualified accountants and transactional staff.
• Oversee daily finance operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Support strategic decision‑making with robust financial analysis.
• Maintain and improve financial control processes to meet compliance standards.
• Lead project work such as streamlining and system improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience as a Financial Controller, preferably in professional services.
• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders.
• Commercially astute with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Previous interim or contractor experience in a fast‑paced environment.
