Interim Head of Finance / Finance Director (12‑month contract)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to join Bellway’s Durham Division on a 12‑month interim basis. The Interim Head of Finance/Finance Director will be a key member of the senior management team, driving financial performance and supporting the Managing Director in delivering the division’s business plan and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own the division’s budget and forecast, ensuring accuracy and alignment with group strategic objectives.
• Review and challenge land acquisition proposals, focusing on financial assumptions and VAT implications.
• Lead the divisional finance team, overseeing payroll, HR, IT and fleet finance matters.
• Ensure compliance with the Group Accounting Manual and manage interim and year‑end audit processes.
• Oversee month‑end close, produce timely management information for divisional and group stakeholders.
• Manage treasury functions, including daily cash‑flow forecasting and adherence to the Prompt Payment Code.
• Prepare and submit all statutory tax returns (VAT, CIS, payroll taxes, corporation tax, residential property developer tax).
• Collaborate with the Sales Director to forecast valuation revenues for quarterly reporting.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance experience within the construction or house‑building sector.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to challenge assumptions and drive cost efficiency.
• Experience managing large finance teams and interfacing with HR, IT and operational functions.
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with senior executives to shape strategy.
• Excellent knowledge of UK tax legislation and accounting standards.
