Interim Headteacher – Specialist School for Deaf Students

About the role

We are looking for an inspirational Interim Headteacher to lead a specialist school and college for deaf students in Brighton. The role involves overall responsibility for the education, residential provision and strategic direction of the institution, ensuring outstanding outcomes for young people with complex communication and special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership across both education and residential services.
• Develop and implement a clear strategic vision focused on excellence, inclusion and student achievement.
• Lead school improvement planning, self-evaluation and compliance with Ofsted, DfE and safeguarding regulations.
• Ensure high-quality teaching, learning and residential care standards.
• Promote preparation for adulthood, independence, communication, wellbeing and employability.
• Manage budgets, resources and staffing to ensure sustainability and value for money.
• Build strong relationships with families, trustees, governors, local authorities and external agencies.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a recognised teaching qualification.
• Significant senior leadership experience in a special school or comparable setting.
• Proven track record of driving improvement and raising outcomes for students with SEND.
• Experience of leading and developing staff teams.
• Strong safeguarding and child protection knowledge.

• Salary £76,771 – £80,654 per annum plus approximately £8,000 allowance for additional duties.
