Java/Kotlin Software Engineer (Hybrid, Manchester)

About the role

Join Zopa’s engineering team to build resilient, cloud‑native financial services. You will work on distributed systems that handle thousands of transactions daily, delivering clean and maintainable backend code.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, reliable backend code using Kotlin (or Java) for financial services.
• Develop and maintain scalable cloud‑based and distributed systems that process thousands of transactions daily.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and fellow engineers in an Agile, product‑focused team.
• Participate in planning, technical discussions, code reviews and continuous delivery pipelines.
• Own features from development through production, ensuring they are well‑tested and monitored.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience writing production‑grade Kotlin or Java code.
• Strong focus on code quality, clean design and automated testing.
• Curious, eager to learn and comfortable asking questions.
• Enjoys solving real‑world problems in a collaborative environment.
• Effective communicator who contributes to team decisions.
