Junior Service Technician – HVAC & Refrigeration

About the role
We are looking for a Junior Service Technician to join a leading engineering and climate solutions organisation in Birmingham. The role is field‑based and forms part of a structured apprenticeship programme that leads to NVQ Level 2 and 3 and F‑Gas certification. You will support experienced engineers on HVAC, refrigeration and climate‑control projects while developing your technical expertise.
Key responsibilities
- Assist experienced engineers with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on HVAC and climate‑control equipment at various customer sites.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and support repair and maintenance activities.
- Attend customer sites for breakdowns, warranty work, commissioning projects, equipment installations and hire activities.
- Build professional relationships by delivering courteous, reliable, customer‑focused service.
- Collaborate with Service Desk, Sales and Operations teams to ensure effective communication.
- Use diagnostic software, engineering drawings, technical specifications and specialist tools to identify faults and complete repairs.
- Complete service reports, maintenance records and work order documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate updates to Regional Service Managers, Lead Technicians, Field Service Representatives and customers.
Required profile
- Motivated and eager to develop technical expertise.
- Strong customer‑service orientation.
- Ability to work safely in field environments and follow health‑and‑safety procedures.
- Good communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
Required skills
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration and climate‑control equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with diagnostic software and specialist field tools.
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis.
