Lead Doctor for Women's Football Team (0.5 FTE)

About the role

The Women's Lead Doctor provides on‑pitch medical cover for the SAFC Women’s Football Team on a 0.5 FTE basis. Acting as the lead clinician, you will oversee emergency action plans, doping control, and health screening programmes while supporting player wellbeing and long‑term athlete care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pitch‑side medical cover for all first‑team matches and act as lead clinician in emergencies.
• Manage injury assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation in collaboration with the medical and performance team.
• Lead cardiac and annual health screening programmes, including assessments for new signings.
• Maintain accurate medical records, oversee medical equipment and drug supplies, and support budgeting and compliance with safeguarding, health‑and‑safety, anti‑doping, and governing‑body regulations.
• Liaise with external providers for scans and specialist treatments as required.
• Contribute to concussion management, medical risk mitigation policies, and multidisciplinary health strategies.

Required profile

• Fully registered and licensed with the GMC.
• Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine or equivalent higher qualification.
• Up‑to‑date Level 5 ATMMiF qualification.
• Completion (or willingness to complete) of UK Anti‑Doping Introduction to Clean Sport and FootballHER courses.
• Current FA Safeguarding qualification.
• Proven experience providing medical care in an elite or professional sports environment, including pitch‑side emergency care.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of female athlete health, cardiac screening protocols, and anti‑doping regulations.
• Experience with multidisciplinary teamwork and clinical governance.
• Ability to manage competing workloads in a high‑performance setting.
