Legal Advisor - Litigation & Operational Specialist

About the Role

Join the dedicated legal team at Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and play a pivotal role in supporting law enforcement and public safety. As a Legal Advisor, you will provide comprehensive legal services to the Chief Constable, police officers, and the Police and Crime Commissioner's office, ensuring legal integrity across all operational and strategic levels.

Main Missions

• Provide strategic legal advice on complex litigation matters, including civil claims, employment tribunals, and formal investigations.
• Manage diverse operational legal files, such as misconduct cases and licensing applications.
• Collaborate closely with police officers and partner agencies to secure civil preventive orders.
• Deliver tactical legal guidance during active police operations to ensure compliance and legality.
• Represent the Chief Constable in court proceedings and legal hearings.
• Supervise and mentor paralegals to maintain the highest standards of legal counsel within the department.

Candidate Profile

• Hold a LLB (Hons) degree or an equivalent legal qualification.
• Qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Fellow of the CILEX.
• Proven experience in litigation and handling complex legal disputes.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Strong critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Terms of Employment

• Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract (Full-time)
• Location: Middlemoor, Exeter
• Remuneration: £26.41 per hour
