Legal Contracts Manager (Research & Innovation)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Contracts Manager to join the Research and Innovation Services team at a leading university. In this hybrid role you will support world‑leading research by drafting, reviewing and negotiating a diverse portfolio of research‑related contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate research funding agreements, collaboration agreements, framework agreements, studentship agreements, NDAs, MTAs, data sharing and equipment loan agreements.
• Provide commercial and contractual advice to academics and professional services colleagues, assessing and managing contractual risks.
• Advise on intellectual property, licensing, publication rights, confidentiality, liability, indemnities and data protection.
• Work closely with IP and commercialisation teams to support research commercial opportunities.
• Manage contract workflows using the university’s research management system and ensure compliance with funding terms and legislation.
• Build relationships with academic departments and deliver guidance and training as required.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in Law (LLB or Graduate Diploma in Law) or equivalent.
• Proven experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of legal contracts, preferably in a research or higher‑education environment.
• Strong understanding of contractual risk, warranties, liabilities, governing law and jurisdiction.
• Ability to communicate legal concepts to non‑legal stakeholders.
