Lighting Technical Director (Contract)

About the role

Framestore is seeking a Lighting Technical Director to join its award‑winning VFX team in London. Reporting to the Head of Lighting, you will lead look development, shading and the final assembly of photorealistic CG scenes for high‑end film and episodic projects.

Key responsibilities

• Implement lighting setups as defined by the Lighting Lead or Supervisor.
• Assemble CG scenes, integrating assets from multiple departments.
• Collaborate with asset teams to meet look‑development requirements.
• Optimize shading and render‑farm usage for efficient production.
• Work with CG Supervisors and Compositors to solve complex visual challenges.
• Render additional passes and adjust lighting configurations as needed.
• Analyse real‑world lighting and accurately replicate it in CG.
• Maintain production schedules, communicate progress, and incorporate feedback.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar lighting or look‑development role on high‑end VFX feature or episodic projects.
• Strong understanding of physically plausible shading, rendering techniques and real‑world lighting principles.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate technical solutions clearly.

Required skills

• Houdini
• Nuke or similar compositing package
• Shading and rendering pipelines
• Lighting techniques and colour‑space knowledge
