Logistics Supervisor – Night Shift

About the role

We are seeking a Logistics Supervisor for the night shift at our Cradley Heath site in Birmingham. You will lead a team of drivers and warehouse operatives to ensure safe, accurate and on‑time loading and dispatch of steel and aluminium orders.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the night shift loading team (4 drivers, 3 operatives) to meet dispatch targets and service levels.
• Allocate workloads, monitor productivity and ensure efficient order fulfilment.
• Oversee loading operations using overhead cranes and FLT equipment, guaranteeing safe handling of steel and aluminium products.
• Ensure loads are compliant, secure and meet transport/legal requirements.
• Conduct shift briefings, communicate priorities, safety updates and KPIs.
• Provide coaching, support and training to team members and enforce health & safety standards.
• Investigate and report incidents, near misses and operational issues.
• Liaise with planning, transport and day‑shift teams for smooth handover.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and system updates.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Required profile

• Proven supervisory experience in a distribution warehouse or metal distribution environment.
• Strong understanding of health & safety in a heavy industrial setting.
• Excellent organisational, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to lead, motivate and manage a fast‑paced team.
• Effective communication skills.

Required skills

• Valid overhead crane licence (desirable).
• FLT licence – counterbalance, combi or side‑loader (desirable).
• Experience with warehouse management systems, preferably SAP (desirable).
• Knowledge of transport and planning processes (desirable).
