Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are recruiting an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our state‑of‑the‑art coffee production factory in Dalston, Cumbria. This permanent position reports to the Manufacturing Maintenance Manager and supports a highly automated PLC‑controlled plant producing Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely and efficient completion of maintenance and compliance‑driven tasks across the site.
• Drive performance improvements of machinery and assets, supporting shift leaders and developing engineering skills within the team.
• Participate in site initiatives such as HACCP, ISO9002 and CDM compliance.
• Raise purchase orders and liaise with the Maintenance Coordinator to maintain appropriate stock levels within budget.
• Take full ownership of assigned areas, generating actions and delivering measurable step‑change improvements.

Required profile

• Strong engineering ability with attention to detail and initiative.
• Experience with modern manufacturing techniques such as 5S, LEAN and TPM.
• HNC or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent apprenticeship) in engineering.
• Proven skills working on pneumatics systems, gearboxes, drives, pumps, valves and packaging equipment.
• Logical fault‑finding approach and effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
