Maintenance Engineer – Shift Cover (Manchester)

About the role

Gap Technical is seeking experienced Maintenance Engineers to provide ad‑hoc shift cover across a variety of manufacturing sites in the Manchester area. The role offers flexible, part‑time hours that can be fitted around existing commitments while delivering essential support to keep production running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults using technical documentation.
• Fault‑find on 3‑phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement long‑term solutions.
• Collaborate with production and operations teams to maximise equipment reliability.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed safely and to a high standard.

Required profile

• Completed engineering apprenticeship (preferred) or equivalent qualifications.
• Previous experience in manufacturing or production environments.
• Strong fault‑finding abilities across electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different sites.
• Experience in FMCG, packaging, food & beverage or chemical sectors is advantageous but not essential.
