Maintenance Operative

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Maintenance Operative to join a leading property company managing a high‑end Build‑to‑Rent development in Birmingham. You will be responsible for keeping apartments, communal areas and building services in excellent condition.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out reactive, planned and preventative maintenance tasks across residential units and common areas.
• Prepare vacant apartments for new tenants, completing pre‑tenancy works.
• Perform basic plumbing, painting, decorating and general repairs.
• Repair or replace woodwork, doors, locks, fixtures and fittings.
• Investigate and resolve minor electrical faults and leaks.
• Assist with furniture moves and simple furniture repairs.
• Conduct routine checks on fire alarms, emergency lighting and water temperature systems.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and manage stock levels.
• Liaise professionally with residents during maintenance visits.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a handyman or maintenance role, preferably within residential or hotel environments.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Excellent customer service orientation.
• Good organisational ability and capacity to multitask.
