About the role
We are looking for a compassionate Mental Health & Wellbeing Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision school in Bromley‑by‑Bow. The role supports 11‑18 year‑old students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them regulate emotions and succeed academically.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily emotional and wellbeing support to pupils.
- Deliver one‑to‑one mentoring sessions.
- Assist students experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation and behavioural challenges.
- Help implement and monitor behaviour support plans.
- Promote positive coping strategies and resilience.
- Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and therapists to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Required profile
- Proven experience supporting young people with SEMH.
- Background in Alternative Provision, SEN, PRU, youth work or mental health services (desirable).
- Calm, compassionate and resilient nature.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Capability to de‑escalate challenging situations.
- Passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable youth.
