Newly Qualified MRICS – Business Rates Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a newly qualified MRICS Chartered Surveyor to join our top‑tier accountancy practice in London. The role focuses on business rates consultancy, managing a diverse portfolio of commercial property valuations and client accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied business rates caseload using comparable, receipts & expenditure, and contractor valuation methods.
• Stay up‑to‑date with the latest business rates case law, valuation and upper‑tribunal decisions.
• Navigate the Check, Challenge and Appeal framework and use the Government Gateway for rate reviews.
• Conduct client site inspections, measure commercial buildings and assess eligibility for relief applications.
• Negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and maintain a strong regional network of rating agents and property professionals.
• Prepare analytical valuation reports and comprehensive challenge documents for submission to the VOA and tribunals.
• Act as an expert witness and advocate in valuation tribunals.
• Utilise CPI Inform Riverlake, Analyse business rates software and CoStar to record data, compile evidence and support negotiations.
• Identify growth opportunities for client accounts and manage associated risks.

Required profile

• MRICS‑qualified Chartered Surveyor, newly qualified.
• Experience valuing commercial property assets across all major valuation methods.
• Proven ability to manage key client accounts, conduct quarterly meetings and produce regular reporting.
• Strong network within the business rates consultancy community and commitment to CPD.
• Capability to independently raise Checks and submit challenges for the 2023 revaluation.
