Payroll Manager – Hybrid – Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the end‑to‑end payroll function for a fast‑growing support services organisation in Birmingham. The role is full‑time, hybrid and reports directly to the Finance Director, offering the chance to influence payroll strategy and ensure compliance with UK legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the complete payroll process for a large workforce, meeting strict deadlines.
• Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, statutory payments, pensions and deductions.
• Reconcile payroll reports, resolve queries and produce analysis for senior management.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and uphold robust payroll controls.
• Liaise with Finance, HR and external stakeholders, supporting audits and compliance activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll professional.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
• Proven ability to manage high‑volume payrolls with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, able to work across departments.
• Available to start on short notice.
