Personal Advisor - Leaving Care

About the role

Our client, Manchester City Council, is seeking a Personal Advisor to join the Leaving Care team. The role supports young people aged 16‑25 who are looked after by the council, helping them transition to independent adulthood.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload, maintain accurate case records and complete statutory recordings.
• Contribute to Pathway Plan assessments and ongoing reviews to promote full engagement.
• Assess young people wishing to resume education, training or other support after age 21.
• Provide advice, practical assistance and flexible support to facilitate successful transitions.
• Coordinate service provision and ensure young people access agreed services.
• Identify and monitor packages of support in line with pathway plans.
• Assist with financial support, budgeting skills and promote financial independence.
• Support access to suitable accommodation.
• Work collaboratively with a range of agencies to deliver an integrated, holistic response.

Required profile

• Experience working with young people, preferably in a statutory or social‑care setting.
• Ability to manage caseloads and maintain detailed records.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to person‑centred practice.
• Knowledge of education, training, health and housing pathways for leaving care.
• Capacity to work flexibly and build effective partnerships with external agencies.
