Personal Advisor – Leaving Care

About the role

The Leaving Care, Children’s & Education Services at Manchester City Council are seeking a Personal Advisor to support young people aged 16‑25 who are looked after by the council. You will help them transition to independent adulthood, providing advice, practical assistance and coordinated services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of young people, keeping accurate records and statutory documentation.
• Conduct Pathway Plan assessments and support education or training resumption for those over 21.
• Promote welfare by ensuring young people’s views shape assessments, plans and reviews.
• Provide flexible advice and practical support to facilitate successful transitions.
• Coordinate service provision and supervise delivery of support packages in the community.
• Assist with financial management skills and ensure appropriate financial support.
• Help secure suitable accommodation and work with partner agencies for a holistic response.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in planning, organising, problem‑solving and decision‑making.
• Effective administrative skills adaptable to a changing environment.
• Full UK driving licence and regular access to a vehicle.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• Flexibility to work between 08:00‑20:00, Monday‑Friday.

Required skills

• Understanding of the Children Act 1989, Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and related legislation.
• IT proficiency across multiple applications and systems.
