Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a permanent Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineer to join a leading facilities management provider on a commercial contract in Manchester. Working 40 hours per week, you will ensure the building’s mechanical services remain safe, compliant and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on mechanical building services plants.
• Perform minor electrical PPM work and routine compliance tasks such as Legionella control and water monitoring.
• Diagnose faults and execute minor repairs or installations to maintain service continuity.
• Update the CAFM system with accurate maintenance ticket information.
• Prepare and follow method statements and risk assessments for all tasks.
• Supervise external sub‑contractors on site.
• Manage spare‑parts stock, identify requirements and assist in quoting remedial work.
• Operate permit‑to‑work systems and participate in the emergency on‑call rota.

Required profile

• City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering Services/Plumbing Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Plumbing/Heating Engineer or Technical Operative within a facilities‑management environment.
• Strong knowledge of building services systems including heating, ventilation, water services and basic electrical systems.
• Excellent communication skills and good IT literacy for reporting and CAFM software use.
