Project Engineer – Stress (Aerospace)

About the role

Join Airbus Belfast as a Project Engineer – Stress to lead structural integrity, airworthiness strategy and regulatory compliance for cutting‑edge aircraft programmes. You will support core and subcontract stress teams, driving design, development and certification of composite and metallic airframe structures.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to core and subcontract stress engineers on static strength, fatigue and damage tolerance analyses.
• Contribute to all stress activities that support design development and certification.
• Support project technical definition, planning and budgeting.
• Interact with customers and certification authorities to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
• Review and approve drawings, DDS and certification reports.
• Liaise with design, loads, materials, manufacturing and test engineering disciplines.
• Participate in internal and customer design reviews and support test specification approval.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 3 years stress‑engineering experience, or HNC/HND with at least 5 years experience.
• Experience in stress analysis of primary aircraft structures using both metallic and composite materials.
• Proficiency with classical stress methods and Finite Element Analysis for composites and metals.
• Ability to work independently under pressure and meet programme milestones.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Stress analysis (static, fatigue, damage tolerance).
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for composite and metallic structures.
• Classical stress calculation methods.
• Use of Airbus ISAMI tools and Bombardier Goliath tools.
• Development and validation of NASGRO damage‑tolerance models.
• Validation of FEM results against certification test data.
