Project Officer – Andover (Archaeology)

About the role

The Project Officer will lead the archaeological direction and site management of larger, complex fieldwork projects for Cotswold Archaeology, ensuring performance targets are met and the quality of recording is upheld.

Key responsibilities

• Manage delivery of fieldwork to time, budget, quality and health & safety standards.
• Line‑manage and develop staff, delivering performance reviews, training and coaching.
• Ensure high‑quality archaeological recording, compile archives and author fieldwork reports.
• Monitor project progress, budgets and liaise with clients, local authorities and contractors.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of British archaeology across all periods.
• Proven experience supervising large, complex fieldwork projects.
• Ability to produce clear, accurate fieldwork reports and stratigraphic accounts.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Current CSCS Health and Safety Card or ability to pass CITB HS&E Operatives/Managers test.
• Full driving licence with willingness to drive company 4×4s and vans.
• Membership of CIfA (or commitment to join) at PCIfA level.
