School Nurse (B6) – NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

About the role

The School Nurse (Band 6) will deliver an open‑access nursing service to families, school‑aged children, young people and vulnerable families across home, community and primary‑care settings. Based at Greenock Health Care Centre, the role supports healthy lifestyles and addresses local public‑health priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide open‑access school nursing services to families and communities.
• Promote healthy lifestyles and respond to identified public‑health needs.
• Focus on the health and wellbeing of school‑aged children, young people and vulnerable families.
• Work collaboratively across home, community and primary‑care environments.

Required profile

• First‑level nursing registration (NMC).
• Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nurse or Public Health Nurse) qualification on the NMC register.
• Evidence of ongoing post‑registration CPD, including CAMHS training and relevant HEI modules.
• Current driving licence.
• Knowledge of national and local public‑health initiatives, Getting it Right for Every Child, the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, SIGN guidelines and child‑protection policies.
• Experience working with children and young people.
