Secondary Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Birmingham. The role focuses on supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a mainstream setting, helping them engage with the curriculum and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with autism, dyslexia, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH needs.
• Collaborate with class teachers to adapt learning activities and resources to individual needs.
• Encourage independence, confidence and resilience by teaching effective learning strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour and assist students in developing social and emotional skills.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people (essential).
• Patient, caring attitude with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Understanding of SEN, particularly autism, dyslexia and SEMH.
• Confident delivering classroom support and targeted interventions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
