SEMH Teaching Assistant

About the role

Hays Education is looking for dedicated Teaching Assistants to provide supply support in SEMS (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools, Pupil Referral Units and alternative provision settings across Manchester. You will work flexibly, either full‑time or part‑time, helping pupils with specialised needs to engage in learning and develop positive behaviours.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs in small groups or one‑to‑one settings.
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and implement behaviour management strategies.
• Build positive relationships and provide emotional support to pupils.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in a school or care setting.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
• Training in behaviour management or team‑teach (desirable).
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.

• Ability to adapt to different settings and work flexibly.
