SEMH Teaching Assistant – Supply Work in Greater Manchester

About the role

The position is for a SEMH Teaching Assistant supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs as well as a range of special educational needs across schools in Greater Manchester. You will work on a supply basis, filling short‑term or long‑term gaps in classrooms and providing direct assistance to teachers and learners.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and managing classroom behaviour for pupils with SEMH, SEND, ASD, PMLD and other specialist needs.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
• Implement individual education plans and behaviour strategies under teacher guidance.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and any interventions used.
• Adapt learning materials and environments to suit diverse needs.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with SEND or SEMH in a school or care setting.
• Positive attitude, patience and resilience.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different school environments and pupil requirements.

Required skills

• Teaching Assistant Level 2 or 3 qualification (preferred).
• Knowledge of Makaton, British Sign Language or Team Teach is advantageous.
