Senior Associate – Professional Risks

About the role

Markel Law is expanding its Professional Risks practice in Manchester and is looking for a Senior Associate to join the team. The role offers autonomy, exposure to London Market work and the chance to shape a high‑quality, technically challenging insurance practice within a supportive, hybrid‑working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Handle a diverse caseload of insured and uninsured contentious and non‑contentious matters, including professional indemnity, public liability, property damage, D&O and cyber risk disputes.
• Provide policy coverage advice and manage complex coverage issues from a defendant’s perspective.
• Lead cases day‑to‑day, setting strategy, reserves and delivery plans.
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and administrators, supporting their professional development.
• Drive business development, internal referrals and relationship building, particularly with London Market clients.
• Contribute to the growth of the team and its London Market capabilities.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in insurance or professional risks, preferably on the defendant side of professional indemnity or liability claims.
• Proven ability to manage a varied caseload across a wide range of values and complexities.
• Strong communication skills and a client‑focused approach.
• Interest in business development and supporting junior colleagues.
