Senior Design Engineer - Manufacturing & Machining Specialist

About the Role

Join a leading manufacturing specialist in Bishop Auckland as a Design Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in the end-to-end product development lifecycle, transforming bespoke concepts into high-precision manufactured components.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of bespoke products, specifically focusing on machined parts, from initial concept to final production.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers dedicated to machined product lines.
• Collaborate closely with the Technical, Quality, and Operations Managers to optimize product design, quality standards, and cost-efficiency.
• Ensure rapid conversion of client requirements into functional development prototypes.
• Provide expert technical support to clients, suppliers, and internal sales teams.
• Evaluate and qualify new suppliers to maintain high manufacturing standards.
• Manage complex Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and detailed technical documentation using MRP systems.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing technical teams.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with senior management (CEO, Operations Manager) to drive business objectives.
• Proactive problem-solver with a focus on continuous improvement and cost optimization.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally to support clients and suppliers.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks is essential).
• Expertise in manufacturing processes, particularly machining and component design.
• Proficiency in using MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) systems for BOM and documentation management.
• Strong technical communication skills for client-facing support.
• Deep understanding of quality control and design optimization principles.
