About the role
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to support major highway projects in the North of England, primarily the A66 NTP and M6 Lune Gorge, as part of our growing internal environmental consultancy. The role involves delivering environmental assessments, managing permits, and promoting sustainable solutions across road, rail, water and property sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to client, stakeholder and technical meetings, championing environmental best practice and innovation.
- Support Environmental Leads on major projects, working closely with construction teams to deliver EMP commitments and conduct impact assessments.
- Identify key environmental risks, propose mitigation strategies and develop management plans.
- Secure all necessary environmental permits, licences and consents in a timely manner while collaborating with designers to minimise impacts.
- Promote decarbonisation, climate resilience, nature‑based solutions and author technical environmental documents.
- Mentor junior team members, represent the team in meetings and drive continuous improvement of environmental processes.
Required profile
- A degree in Ecology or equivalent experience.
- Practitioner membership of ISEP (or equivalent) and working towards CEnv qualification.
- Robust understanding of UK environmental legislation and proven experience delivering environmental assessments for infrastructure projects.
- UK protected species licence and strong knowledge of habitat surveys, Defra Biodiversity Metric and Biodiversity Net Gain planning.
