Senior Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer – Building Services

About the role

We are seeking a senior Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer to join a leading specialist engineering contractor in Greater Manchester. The role involves delivering highly regulated environments such as clean rooms, laboratories and sterile manufacturing facilities for the pharmaceutical, life‑science and food sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical and HVAC design across all RIBA stages, from concept to detailed design and commissioning.
• Produce procurement‑ready designs, including system sizing, equipment selection, space planning and routing.
• Support procurement with technical specifications and supplier engagement.
• Provide design assistance during construction, ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, and support commissioning and validation.
• Attend client meetings, coordinate with specialist equipment suppliers and prepare statutory authority submissions.

Required profile

• HNC in Building Services Engineering (degree preferred).
• Strong experience in HVAC and mechanical building services design for regulated environments.
• Proven ability to deliver turnkey project designs for pharmaceutical, research and clean‑room facilities.

Required skills

• HVAC design and mechanical systems engineering.
• Air‑conditioning, ventilation, fume and dust extraction.
• Chilled water, LTHW/MPHW/HPHW heating, steam and condensate systems.
• Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Compressed air, nitrogen and specialist gas systems.
• Domestic hot and cold water, above‑ground drainage.
• Clean‑room and specialist ventilation design.
