Senior Quantity Surveyor – Repairs & Maintenance

About the role

Southwark Council is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead repairs and maintenance programmes for its housing portfolio. The role is permanent, offers work‑from‑home flexibility and is based in SE1 2QH, London.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on cost planning, valuation and contract management for preventative maintenance, repairs and refurbishment projects.
• Prepare pricing documentation and manage budgets of up to £12 million, controlling expenditure and variations.
• Appoint and manage internal and external consultants and subcontractors, issuing work packages and tender reports.
• Undertake value engineering, risk identification and ensure value for money throughout project delivery.
• Prepare estimates, notices and final cost statements for leaseholders and act as expert witness where required.
• Lead, motivate and develop the Quantity Surveying team, handling recruitment, appraisal and training.
• Contribute to long‑term strategic planning, producing capital expenditure forecasts for housing assets.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in quantity surveying within housing repairs and maintenance.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and complex contracts.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder communication skills.
• Experience in preparing tender documentation and handling contract disputes.
• Ability to produce detailed reports for senior managers and external parties.
