Senior Staff Engineer – Autonomy Software Integration & Test

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to lead autonomy software integration and test activities for unmanned platforms supporting operations in Ukraine. The role blends software development, aircraft system integration, and real‑world flight testing in fast‑paced field environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver production‑quality C++ and Python software features for autonomous systems.
• Design, implement, debug and maintain software components that enable mission execution and system integration.
• Integrate autonomy stacks onto fixed‑wing, multirotor and other unmanned platforms.
• Create internal tools, automation pipelines and test infrastructure for telemetry analysis.
• Support software bring‑up, system configuration and mission readiness for flight operations.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues across software, onboard compute, radios, networking, sensors and flight controllers.
• Conduct simulation (SIL/HIL/VIL), ground testing and live flight test activities, including pre‑flight setup and post‑flight analysis.
• Operate and maintain Ground Control Stations and mission support systems during field demonstrations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing and integrating software for robotics, autonomy, aerospace or embedded systems.
• Strong proficiency in C++ and Python development on Linux platforms.
• Hands‑on experience integrating hardware and software, and supporting field or flight testing.
• Familiarity with MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot or QGroundControl and ability to travel within Ukraine.
